Journey to Becoming a Counselor
My name is Iris Peña Galaviz, and I am currently a master’s-level counseling student at Colorado Christian University. I hold a bachelor’s degree in applied psychology with a specialization in Clinical Counseling and a minor in Biblical studies. I am deeply passionate about serving underserved communities and increasing mental health awareness and affordability. My personal and cultural background has shaped my commitment to creating accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive care.
Approach to Counseling
My counseling approach is integrative, drawing primarily from Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I believe that therapy is most effective when it is tailored to each individual’s unique experiences, needs, and goals.
I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to show up authentically. I value collaboration, compassion, and meeting clients at their own pace. I believe that healing occurs through genuine connection and that each client has the capacity for growth and meaningful change. My role is to walk alongside clients, helping them feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout their journey.
