My Journey to Becoming a Counselor

My journey toward becoming a counselor has been shaped by a deep interest in people, their stories, and their capacity for growth and healing. I grew up in a small town in Ohio with a large, blended family, where I developed an appreciation for the importance of relationships and the ways they shape our lives. Through my professional experiences in case management and behavior management, I have had the privilege of walking alongside individuals facing a wide range of challenges. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the emotional, relational, and practical barriers that can make it difficult to move forward and have strengthened my desire to support others through those challenges.

I have always been enchanted by the human brain and the way people work, which led me to my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I am currently in my final year at Colorado Christian University, pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My experiences both before and during my counseling training have strengthened my desire to meet people where they are and help them recognize that their circumstances do not have to define their future.

My Approach to Counseling

I approach counseling from a holistic perspective, recognizing that each person is more than the challenges they are facing. Our thoughts, emotions, relationships, experiences, values, and sense of self all shape how we navigate life, and I believe each of these pieces deserves space to be understood. Healing often begins when we feel truly seen, heard, and supported. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that every person brings a unique story, strengths, and experiences into the counseling space.

I primarily integrate person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and existential perspectives. I value practical tools that help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and patterns while also making space to explore the deeper questions, values, and experiences that shape their lives. I believe counseling should be a place where clients can be honest about where they are without fear of judgment.

My role is not to tell you who you should be or what your life should look like, but to walk alongside you with compassion and without judgment. Together, we can explore your story as a whole, recognize your strengths, develop new perspectives, and work toward meaningful change. My hope is that clients leave counseling feeling supported and empowered as they move toward greater freedom, self-understanding, and wholeness.
